Nobody Here But Us Crickets
I'm working on a standup piece about written evaluations. Because of my job I've been glancing over quite a few written course evaluations, and I find them quite humorous. Students write things like, "I think it's important that Dr. X try to avoid coming to class without pants." This is my kind of humor. I find the general bravado associated with written language hilarious. An average person would never use a sentence like that if they weren't being required to write it down (I, personally, talk like that all the time, and that's why I am weird). An average person would say, "Dude, my professor is naked. Gross!" But when you have to write it down for posterity, this just seems too indelicate.
Interesting, you say, but why does Kari want to use this as springboard for standup material? And wait, I didn't even know Kari did standup. Well, she doesn't, but she's bored at work, and she does like to perform and she does find herself highly amusing. So she thought that she might prepare something for an open mic night. It will be like karaoke, she thinks, but with less music...and less dying cow sounds...and more crickets chirping.
